Cloud over killers’ identity
- Police start probe into criminal’s death

Jamshedpur, March 31: One Safiullah Khan, alias Kallu Khopdi, was killed when irate people thrashed him at Azad Bustee in Mango late yesterday night.

The deceased, a resident of Golmuri Muslim Bustee had come to Azad Bustee to allegedly kill a builder. However, his plans fizzled out when people gheraoed him and severely thrashed him to death after midnight.

Kallu, a former shooter of the infamous Nasir gang, lay unattended on Road 15 for over an hour. Police rushed him to the MGM Medical College and Hospital where he was declared as brought dead.

A pistol and some cartridges were recovered from his possession.

In this connection, Kallu’s younger brother Samiullah Khan, has lodged an FIR with the Golmuri police station against five persons — Parvez, Firoz, Moti, Sammu Khan and Bablu — alleging that his sibling was abducted and later murdered by the accused.

A resident of Golmuri Bustee, Kallu went to Mango late yesterday night to allegedly settle scores with a builder, who had a dispute with one of his relatives. However, people got wind of his plans and he was subsequently killed.

According to the FIR, however, Kallu and his friend Gul Hassan alias Gullu, a resident of Jugsalai, had gone out of their houses in Golmuri for tea on a two-wheeler in the evening.

While returning home, a four-wheeler intercepted them and pulled Kallu inside. Gullu, who managed to escape, ran to Kallu’s house to inform his family about the incident.

The FIR added that when the informant and other members of his family went to the spot, eyewitnesses informed them that some men in a four-wheeler had abducted Kallu.

But Gullu alleged that the Golmuri police did not entertain them when they went to the police station. Later, they went to Mango and Azad Nagar police station but failed to know the whereabouts of Kallu.

Things became clear when the family went to the MGM.

Later, the family members met the police superintendent Naveen Kumar Singh, who directed them to go to the hospital to get possession of the body.

Family members of the deceased went to the superintendent of police’s office in large numbers to demand immediate arrest of the culprits.

They even refused to take possession of Kallu’s body till the culprits were nabbed.

Police are investigating the case. No arrests have been made in this connection.

According to sources, Kallu’s criminal activities centred around murder and train dacoity.
