Laugh out loud

He had left us in splits in romcoms like Basanta Bilap and Padi Pishir Barmi Baksho. So, when comedian Chinmoy Roy thought of directing a feature film, he could only think of a laughathon. Roy’s directorial debut, Ekbar Bolo Uttam Kumar, has Parambrata playing Kyabla Chandra Mal. Pitted against him is magician PC Sorcar Junior’s youngest daughter Mumtaz. The cast includes Roy’s veteran co-stars Soumitra Chatterjee and Sabitri Chatterjee.

Ekbar Bolo Uttam Kumar is about Kyabla who lives in the slums, but falls for rich girl Bobby (Mumtaz). Bobby loves Prem (Diganta Bagchi) and hates Kyabla. But Kyabla, who is obsessed with Uttam Kumar’s films, won’t give up easily.

“The film is a funny take on the love triangle. The audience will get a flavour of the films I had worked in.... The title Ekbar Bolo Uttam Kumar was a dialogue I had in Basanta Bilap; it was an instant hit. Besides, this is my way of paying tribute to Uttam Kumar,” said the actor-turned-director. Roy has already shot for a few days at a Salt Lake residence. Shooting resumes in end-May.

Ekbar Bolo Uttam Kumar has eight songs composed by Som Dasgupta. Shreya Ghoshal will be the star voice.
