7 workers killed

Kochi, March 27 (PTI): Seven Congress workers were killed and 30 injured, eight of them seriously, when a lorry rammed into a rally in Kerala’s Ernakulam district this evening.

Six bodies have been identified, district collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hannish said. Chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan has asked the collector to submit a report on the accident. The driver has been arrested.

Rajbir gun

Gurgaon (PTI): The revolver found at the site of the murder of encounter specialist Rajbir Singh was manufactured illegally, police sources said. Vijay Bhardwaj, Singh’s alleged killer, had earlier claimed the weapon was given to him by the ACP himself.

Six robbed

Bangalore (PTI): Six passengers of the Mumbai-Bangalore Udayan Express were drugged and robbed by three persons on March 25, police said. According to one of the passengers, the trio befriended them and offered them fruit juice which sent them to sleep. The six were taken to hospital.

Ramdev letter

Moradabad (PTI): A young man sent a letter, threatening to kill yoga guru Ramdev, in a relative’s name to spite him. The letter, which police received on Wednesday, said in Hindi: “Baba Ramdev will be no more.” Ramdev is visiting Moradabad. “Everything is normal and security has been enhanced,” DIG Badri Prasad said.

Teacher rap

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): A criminal case has been registered against two teachers for helping students cheat during a state board examination at Goela. District inspector of schools K.R. Pal said Om Kumar and Rajiv had not been appointed but were at the centre.

Bribe cop

Aurangabad (PTI): Anti-corruption bureau sleuths arrested a head constable on Wednesday for taking a bribe. Sakharam Pathade was caught red handed accepting Rs 300 from Sunil Ratnaparkhi to “settle a case” in which Sunil was an accused.
