Jamshedpur, March 27: The movement of trains in the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway was affected for about an hour this morning as activists of Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) staged a railway blockade at Barambo and Rajkharsawan railway stations.
At least two long distance trains, including Ahmedabad-Tata Express and Alleppy-Tata, were detained for an hour between Rajkharsawan and Chakradharpur.
Movements of the Tata-Nagpur Passenger and the Bilaspur-Tata Passenger were also disrupted due to the agitation.
It was part of JDP’s railway and road blockade against violation of constitutional safeguards of tribals living in Jharkhand and in other states. The blockade was observed in neighbouring states of Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh also.
“We want justice for the Assam incident where several tribal youths were beaten to death. We want to draw the attention of the government,” said Ishwar Soren, the central general secretary of JDP who was leading the rail agitation.
Around 150 activists of JDP were arrested in Chakulia. Apart from this, party activists put up road blockades at Patamda, Balrampur, Santhalpargana, Giridih and Dumka.
Railway officials at Tatanagar said both the Ahmedabad-Howrah and Alleppy-Tata arrived about three hours behind schedule. Several passengers at Tatanagar railway station had to cancel their tickets due to delayed arrival of the trains.
