Sreevats likely to make cut

Under-19 world champion Sreevats Goswami is set to make the Bengal cut for the national one-dayers.

According to CAB sources, Manoj Tiwary, Ashok Dinda and spinner Sourashish Lahiri are all likely to return to the side.

Priyankar Mukherjee is likely to make way for Sourashish.

The squad will be announced on Thursday for the national one-dayers’ final round, to be held in Visakhapatnam next month.

Hattrick by Debabrata

A hattrick by Debabrata Dutta of Bhowanipore Club restricted Young Bengal to 199 in a CAB two-day league match on Wednesday. Debabrata ended up taking five for 37. India U-19 wicketkeeper Sreevats Goswami, however, managed only 15. In reply, Bhowanipore were struggling losing four for 50.

Badminton

P. Ghosh won the boys’ under-11 final beating R. Bhowmick 15-4, 15-5 in the BPA badminton championships at the Ordnance Club on Wednesday. P. Mitra won the girls’ under-11 final defeating P. Chandra.

AITA meet

Local girl Srijita Ghosh won both the under-12 and under-16 matches beating Priyam Periwal 6-0, 6-0 and Preyanshi Jain 6-0, 6-2, respectively, on her way to make the semi-finals of the AITA Talent Series at the High Court Club on Wednesday.

In the boys’ under-12 singles quarter finals, Md. Shaharyar Salim of Jamshedpur beat Aayush Poddar 7-5, 6-2 while top seed Arjun Patnaik of Andhra Pradesh was ousted by eighth seed and city boy Md. Kamran Ali 1-6, 7-6 (7-2),7-6 (7-0).

Hole-in-one

A.C. Doshi holed out in one stroke at second hole (143 yds) at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club course on March 16.
