Gangtok, March 26: Members of the Affected Citizens of Teesta (ACT), on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 16 days, have developed liver complications. The ACT has been spearheading a protest against the setting up of hydel plants in North Sikkim’s Dzongu, a Lepcha reserve.
Ongchuk Lepcha and Tashi Namgyal Lepcha have been diagnosed with jaundice. ACT general secretary Dawa Lepcha has developed a renal problem. They have been administered intravenous fluids at Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital here.
“All of them are stable and comfortable, although some of them have developed liver complications,” said Dr Namgyal T. Sherpa, a senior consultant at the hospital.
