Guwahati, March 25: The progress of work at the cricket stadium at Barsapara here got a major boost with the Assam government last week sanctioning Rs 50 lakh towards the construction.

Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah said the planning and development department of the state government has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh under the untied fund for construction of the stadium.

“The funds were sanctioned following the initiative taken by the chief minister Tarun Gogoi,” Baruah said. Gogoi had promised Rs 1 crore annually towards the construction till the stadium was completed.

The construction of the stadium has been in full swing and nearly 30 per cent of the Rs 50-crore project has been completed. The BCCI has also promised all possible financial assistance towards construction of the stadium. The apex body of the country has already released Rs 4 crore for the purpose.
