Off & On

A drop in TRPs has forced SPS Arts and Entertainment to wrap up three mega serials aired on Aakaash Bangla.

Those given the go-off-air signal are Andarmahal, Bijoyini and Kaal. The two staying on are Shaanai and Probahini Ei Somoy. While Shaanai is directed by Agnidev Chatterjee of SPS, Probahini is steered by Avijit Dasgupta. “The stories of Andarmahal, Bijoyini and Kaal are close to an end. There’s no point stretching them unnecessarily. Besides, we haven’t got our desired TRPs, which is very important for mega serials,” said Agnidev.

Sahityer Shera Somoy, a series based on Bengali classics produced by T. Sarkar Productions, will replace Andarmahal; Atanu Roy’s mega Kurukshetra will fill in the Bijoyini blank and a yet-untitled mega directed by John Halder will replace Kaal.

It’s not all bad news for SPS though, as it is coming up with a fresh mega called Ki Ashay Baadhi Khelaghar, which is still on the floors. “We haven’t yet decided which channel it will be for,” said Agnidev.
