Hailakandi, March 23: Young Men Athletic Club of Hailakandi on Friday lifted the Barak Valley Twenty20 Knockout Cricket tournament, defeating Lucky Club by eight wickets in the final at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium.

Batting first, Lucky Club were bowled out for 99 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Pranab Bhowmick topscored with 30 runs while Prasenjit Dey and Shivu Chetri contributed 20 and 19. Young Men’s Krishnendu Das, Rahul Dey, Jyoti Prakash Kar and Kaushik Paul took two wickets each.

The Young Men batsmen reached the target in 15 overs, losing only two wickets. Team skipper Raju Suklavaidya scored 35 while Monojit Das remained unbeaten on 24.

Suklavaidya was adjudged the Man of the Match while Lucky Club player Chetri received the Man of the Series award. Jyoti Prakash Kar of Young Men received the Best Bowler award while Dipankar Aditya of Karimganj won the Best Batsman title.

Krishnendu Das of Young Men was adjudged the Best Fielder. Swarup Paul Choudhury of Lucky Club was adjudged the Best Coach of the meet organised by the District Sports association (DSA) of Hailakandi.
