Debt drives 46-yr-old to suicide

Ashok Chowdhury, 46, committed suicide inside Belgachhia milk depot in Ultadanga on Saturday night.

Local residents found the debt-ridden milk depot employee’s body hanging from the ceiling at 6.50am on Sunday and informed police.

A suicide note was found on him. “Nobody was held responsible for his death. He had mentioned how he got into a financial mess and was unable to repay his loan,” said Amiya Kumar Lahiri, the officer-in-charge of Ultadanga police station.

A preliminary investigation revealed that he died five to six hours before the body was found. “The noose was made by tying together empty plastic milk packets. The resident of Garulia at Noapara hadn’t returned home yesterday,” he added.

The body has been sent for post-mortem. “His family has been alerted,” said an investigating officer.
