Cloud over change in township status

Phusro (Bokaro), March 22: Almost all the 32 candidates contesting for the post of chairman of Phusro has one thing in common — everyone promises to turn the industrial area into a city like Jamshedpur.

There are several problems plaguing the area like electricity, water supply. Though these candidates do not have a clue how to attend to these problems, all of them dream big and wish to become the chairman of the area.

Phusro gets hardly six hours of electricity a day and in the summer season only four hours. The people of the area do not get a regular supply of drinking water and most of the time they have to travel 4-5km to collect water. The people of the area bathe twice a week in the pond where the waste from CCL is discharged.

Pollution is another major problem in the industrial area. About 40 per cent of the residents suffer from breathing problems. Even the roads are in very bad condition. There are very few educational institutes in the area.

The candidates are not leaving any stones unturned to win the election. A lot of money is being spent and the candidates are also not being hesitant in offering bribe to reporters to write in their favour which will help them in winning the election.

Though none of the political parties have come up with their nominees’ name, the candidates on their campaigning are introducing themselves as the member of a particular party.

The candidates contesting for the polls are Basant Singh (BJP), Suresh Dubey (Jharkhand Vikas Morcha), Santosh Kumar Mahto (Ajsu), Abhaya Kumar Singh (Samajwadi Party), Chedi Nonia (an independent candidate) Maheshwar Yadav (banking on the votes of Yadav of RJD), Udai Pratap Singh (Congress), Nandu Mishra (Shiv Sena), Dilip Karmali (a social worker) and Chandan Ram (supported by Scheduled Caste) besides two women candidates Sushma Singh and Hansa Kalsi hailing from affluent families.

Though the candidates may not know how to control the pollution, curb Naxalite menace in the area or solve the power crunch, they all are optimistic of winning the election.
