Let’s play Holi!

Twinkle Bajpai (Lakshmi of Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan)

“I will be going home to Lucknow after one whole year, so I’m really looking forward to Holi. We do a Satyanarayan puja a day before Holi. For Holi, we have organised a small get-together where all our family members will play Holi together. Later in the evening, we will have a party. The next day again there is a puja. “I have never been able to play Holi properly since we always had our exams at that time but this time I’m really waiting to reach home and have a good time with my family.”

Sayantani Ghosh(Amrita of Naaginn)

“My Holi has already started (laughs). For the past few days, I have been shooting Holi sequences for my shows — Naaginn and Ghar Ek Sapnaa and a Holi special for Bura Na Mano Holi Hai. So by the time Holi comes, I must have played Holi three-four times already. Probably on the day I will stay at home and rest because all my desire to play with colours would have died down (laughs).... This is just my second Holi in Mumbai. Earlier, I really enjoyed Holi in Calcutta with all my family members. Each year was fun.”

Kiran Karmarkar(Om of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii)

“I stay in a very huge housing complex and on Holi all the people come together and enjoy. My housing society is my home so I try to attend as many functions as I can. But I am not too fond of attending functions outside on this day. Our whole area is practically sealed off and the society itself provides us with lunch and safe colours. By the time we finish the celebrations, it is 4 ’clock.

“The best part of playing Holi in my own complex is that I get to celebrate it like a common man. Nobody considers me a star now as I have become so involved with the society and its working.”

Gaurav Chopra (Captain Abhimanyu of Left Right Left)

“I have no elaborate plans. A few friends will get together and play Holi and go hopping to different friends’ houses, have lunch and spend time together. I like playing Holi with both dry and wet colours since each has its own charm but it is a shame if you do not get wet on Holi. I’m from Delhi and Holi is a lot bigger and more boisterous there. People move about in huge groups.

“I remember one particular year, we had finished our final exams just one day before Holi and so there was huge excitement. There was a big park in front of our house and a collective Holi would be organised there. We made groups and played Holi games and decided that the winning team would get a trophy. This was kiddy stuff but lots of genuine fun — the kind good memories are made of. Today, the simple version of fun is just not there in the lives we lead.

“Holi is the festival to make-up. I have not fought with anyone but if anyone has any animosity towards me, here’s an open invitation — they can come to me and I will put colour on them, hug them and make up.”

Neha Bamb(Mahi of Maayka)

“I haven’t planned anything concrete as of now for Holi. If I get a holiday, I would like to go out with my friends and my husband on that day. Otherwise I would be working as usual.

“My most memorable Holi was about three years ago when I went to a friend’s farmhouse. I had two glasses of bhaang and starting acting all weird. I ended up eating two full McDonald’s burgers; this is weird because normally I can have only half a burger at a time! I wasn’t even satisfied with that and wanted to eat whatever I could lay my hands on.”

Amrita Prakash(Last seen in Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai)

Holi this year would be the same like last year. I will indulge in lot of colour and water splashing. My worst Holi memory is that one time I was out of Mumbai and so I missed out on all the fun.

Rang barse is my favourite Holi song. I guess it’s a universal favourite.

Amrapali Gupta(Bindya of Teen Bahuraniyaan)

I don’t play Holi unless I have to shoot for the same for any of my serials. But I do enjoy the drinks associated with this day like bhaang and Thandai, and I will certainly have a cuppa this time too. When I was in the 12th standard a guy from my society threw colour into my eyes and it gave me a lot of trouble for an entire week. I got very scared after that incident and have avoided playing Holi ever since. My all-time favourite song is Rang barse, and only in Mr Bachchan’s voice.

Mreenal Deshraj(Last seen in Doli Saja Ke)

I’m shooting for a film so I will probably get to play Holi at some exotic location with my co-actors. My best Holi memory was when I was in school I used to play Holi in Nagpur with my cousins. We would start playing Holi weeks in advance. My mum used to make special sweets for all of us. My Holi song is Holi ke din dil khil jaate hain.
