Milk price

Calcutta, March 18: The government will increase the price of milk procured from farmers by a rupee a litre from April.

Animal resource minister Anisur Rahman, however, ruled out a hike in the price of milk in the retail market.

Worm in meal

Tamluk: Over 30 students fell ill after eating the mid-day meal in a primary school in Mahishadal, East Midnapore. The district’s chief medical officer said the children saw a caterpillar in the dal. “Some of them started vomiting. We have hospitalised them.”

Malda bypoll

Calcutta: The CPM has fielded Anjuman Ara in the byelection to the Kharba Assembly seat in Malda on April 12. It fell vacant after the death of Congress MLA Mahababul Haque. The Congress has nominated his son Asif.

Boy returns

Chinsurah: The HS candidate who went missing on Sunday returned home late on Tuesday night. Subhendu Kolay, who had scored about 84 per cent in Madhyamik, said he left home because he had been feeling claustrophobic.

Shrine death

Calcutta: A youth hit a 65-year-old caretaker of a mazar with a stone, killing him in a village near Bhangar, South 24-Parganas. Haneef had objected when he saw Paran Mollah enter the mazar with slippers on. Paran picked up a stone and threw it at Haneef.
