March 17: A team of Japan Bank for International Cooperation will be on a two-day visit to the city beginning tomorrow to finalise the assistance needed for the water supply scheme.
A source said the visit of the Japan Bank team was being looked at by many as crucial.
Previous visits to the city have made the members aware of the kind of assistance the GMC is looking for.
With only 30 per cent of the citys residents enjoying access to water supply, Dispur approached the Japan bank for a handsome investment to extend the water supply network.
The ministry of urban development has recently cleared a sum of Rs 280 crore to augment the water supply system in some areas of the city.
The exponential growth in population in the past one-and-a-half decades has shot up the demand for natural sources like groundwater.
The Japan bank team will scrutinise the detailed project report submitted by Dispur for the water supply project.
It will analyse the report and ask relevant questions, the source said.
