Rebels kill colonel

Srinagar, March 16 (PTI): A lieutenant colonel and a jawan were killed and three army personnel injured in a gun battle with militants in Jammu and Kashmir today.

The encounter took place when security forces came under fire from the militants during a routine operation in Dangiwacha area of Baramulla district, official sources said. A hunt is on to find two militants said to be hiding in the densely populated Dangiwacha area.

Goa tourist

Panaji (PTI): A German woman was allegedly molested on a beach in south Goa on Friday. Five persons were rounded up, based on the description given by the victim. The woman complained to Colva police that she was molested on Friday night on the isolated Cavelossim beach.

Job hoppers

New Delhi (PTI): Call centre employees in India are the most frequent job-hoppers among their Asian peers, a survey by callcentres.net said. According to the report, the average job tenure of call centre employees in India is the lowest at 11 months.

Suicide bid

Jammu (PTI): A revenue officer was seriously injured when he tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train on Saturday. The state vigilance organisation had raided Janak Singh’s house and office last month, police said.

Scorpene

New Delhi (PTI): The CBI probe into the allegations of kickbacks in the Rs 16,000-crore Scorpene submarine deal has made no headway, sources said. The agency has to submit a report to Delhi High Court by March 24.

Saviour wife

Nashik (PTI): A woman was injured on Saturday while saving her husband from a leopard. The labourer couple were collecting cowdung when the leopard attacked them. The woman fractured her legs while jumping off a hill. Both were taken to hospital.
