Calcutta: Australian batsman David Hussey was Thursday named the Twenty20 player of the year by Cricket Australia.

The 30-year-old Victorian, who has been roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the inaugural Indian Premier League, claimed 17 votes to finish five votes ahead of New South Wales youngster Steven Smith to claim the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash Player of the Year award.

New South Wales captain Simon Katich was named the Sheffield Shield player of the season, while South Australian opener Matthew Elliott was the domestic one-day player of the year in his final season of inter-state cricket.
