Scolded, girl kills self

Alipurduar, March 12: A 13-year-old girl committed suicide yesterday by consuming poison at Parongerpar after she was scolded by her father.

Radharani Gope, a Class VI student of Subhash Girls’ High School in Falakata, was playing with gulal with her younger sister when their father scolded her. Soon after, Radharani consumed poison. Police have sent the body to Alipurduar hospital for post-mortem.

Jumbo body

Jalpaiguri: Foresters on Wednesday recovered the body of a female adult elephant, aged around 35 years, from the Ramsai forest area close to Gorumara National Park.

Freak death

Alipurduar: Budhua Kujur (50) of Rydak Tea Estate died after his head hit a branch of a tree. Kujur was tending to a cow at home on Tuesday afternoon. Suddenly, the animal started running and Kujur tripped on the rope with which the cow was tied. He hit a branch of tree, which caused his death instantaneously. The body has been sent to Alipurduar hospital for post-mortem.

Kid injured

Raiganj: Three-and-a-half-year-old Raju Mohammad suffered burns after he fell into a container full of boiling khichdi at Goalpara Sisku Siksha Kendra in Hemtabad. Raju is undergoing treatment at Raiganj District Hospital.

Boys rescued

Jalpaiguri: The RPF personnel of Jalpaiguri Road Station rescued five boys, aged between 10 and 12 years and residents of Chandrachura village in Cooch Behar, on Tuesday night. The boys had fled their homes in search of jobs.
