Shelter for platform boys

Siliguri, March 12: A short stay home for runaway or orphaned boys rescued from railway platforms was inaugurated in the Bhaktinagar area of Siliguri yesterday.

To be run by Conc’rn (Care of Needy Children Rightfully Nurtured), the home is in addition to a drop-in centre at New Jalpaiguri Station and a similar home for girls inaugurated four months ago.

“We can now accommodate 50 girls and boys at our homes, in addition to 40 at the drop-in centre,” said Partho Biswas, who has been working with the organisation since it began helping such children in 2003.

Conc’rn founder secretary Gobind Kaur said there was no organisation in Siliguri before 2003 to help such children.

The home was inaugurated by Collin and Mary Boocock, representatives of Railway Children UK, a charitable organisation which helps runaway children through 117 projects across the world.
