Rasamati (Cooch Behar), March 11: The Bengal forest department will introduce a toy train at Kholta Ecopark. Forest minister Ananta Roy announced this after laying the foundation stone for a tourist bungalow in the Rasamati forest, 34km from Cooch Behar town.
“The bungalow will have a unique design since funds won’t be a constraint. Construction will start soon,” the minister said.
Both the bungalow and the park are coming up in Roy’s Assembly constituency. The minister comes from Kholta where he had laid the foundation stone for the park in October 2006.
Asked if the deer that are to be brought to Kholta would be disturbed by the toy train, Roy said the animals would be kept in an enclosure, while the toy train would trundle outside it.
The minister said the deer would be brought from the Rasikbeel tourism centre where they have been bred in captivity. So, they are accustomed to humans, said Roy.
“Rasamati and Kholta have tremendous tourism potential. We are even thinking of relocating a few rhinos to Rasamati to attract tourists,” said the minister.
The Rasamati forest has 250 spotted deer and 20 leopards. “Both places are easily accessible from Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar,” said Roy.
