Shillong, March 10: An 11-member delegation of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), led by Brig. Gen. M.A. Bari, arrived in Shillong today to have a co-ordination meeting with the BSF.
The border co-ordination meeting between the inspectors general of the BSF and the deputy director general of the BDR would be held at the BSF headquarters at Umpling in Shillong from tomorrow. It will conclude on Thursday.
The BSF and BDR will discuss various issues like Bangladesh sheltering militants from the Northeast, trans-border crimes committed by Bangladeshi criminals in Indian territory, illegal intrusion and prevention of smuggling of cattle, fake Indian currency notes and other items.
Other issues like poaching of Indian natural resources by Bangladeshi criminals, obstruction by the BDR to development work, illegal transhipment of arms and ammunition and the need to take action against the sympathisers of Indian insurgents in Bangladesh will also be taken up during the meeting.
The BDR is concerned over the opposition from the BSF against digging of earth for extracting stones and boulders near the international border.
The BDR delegation includes representatives of the ministry of home affairs and the ministry of foreign affairs of the Bangladesh government, who arrived in Shillong via Dawki.
