Guwahati, March 9: All-rounder Dhiraj Goswami was today brimming with confidence on the eve of leaving for Calcutta to join the East Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy tournament scheduled to commence from March 14.
Representing the zone for the first time in his first-class career, Goswami, who will fly to Calcutta tomorrow, said: “I will give my 100 per cent if given a chance to be in the playing eleven. I am confident I will come out with flying colours”. East Zone will face South Zone in their first outing at Hyderabad on March 14.
Talking exclusively to the correspondent on the sidelines of a match of the ongoing Airtel All-India Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, where he represented Bud Cricket Club this afternoon, Goswami said, “I was not expecting my selection after my moderate performance in the recent East Zone one-dayers here. Now that I have got an opportunity, I will not let it go.”
Making his first class debut in the 2002-03 season the 22-year-old Nagaon all-rounder has so far played 11 Ranji Trophy matches and as many List-A tournament matches. He has also played two Twenty20 ties for Assam. He has been at the peak of his form in the last Ranji season having picked for 17 wickets from five matches and chipping in with some useful knocks in the middle order.
An emergent executive committee meeting of the Assam Women’s Hockey Association will be held at the Assam Olympic Association office premises here on March 30. The meeting will discuss formation of the state women’s hockey team and the district teams in the state.
