Burglars at work
Burglars sneaked into a house in Beleghata on Sunday afternoon and fled with cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 2 lakh. Police said Satyananda Mitra and his daughter-in-law Bratati had left their one-storey house in Dr Panchanan Mitra Lane for an hour to visit neighbours who had invited them. Mitras son Supratim was away on work. A preliminary probe revealed said the burglars were known to the Mitras.
Man dies
A contract labourer died after suffering a cardiac arrest while working at Calcutta airport on Sunday. Bhado Khan, 40, from Bongaon, was working was taken to to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he died.
Hit by bus
Traders Mohammad Raju, 22, and Mohammad Ismail, 20, were killed on BT Road, near Sodepur, on Sunday morning after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a private bus. The duo were headed for Shyambazar. Ismail was driving and Raju was riding pillion. When the duo reached Kamarhati, the bus on route 78/1, headed in the opposite direction, hit them. They were declared dead when taken to Sagar Dutta Hospital.
