Committee to voice heroes’ plea

Imphal, March 7: The 110 jobless gold medallists from Manipur made a move to get their plea heard by the state government by forming a All-Manipur Players’ Welfare Co-ordination Committee today.

The sportspersons, had won gold medals for the state in the various National Games, and were promised government jobs by the Manipur government. But these promises have proved to be empty till now as the medallists remain jobless till date.

In February 29 several sportspersons had locked the gate of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in protest after the government failed to meet the February 28 deadline of coming up with a solution to their problem.

The next day, they also staged a sit-in at the youth affairs and sports department office gate.

Further consolidating their stand today, the committee has also decided to seek the help of coaches, guardians, representatives of clubs and social organisations in a meeting scheduled to be held at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium tomorrow.
