Stuti Choudhury and Munna Khan in a still from Tides

Guwahati, March 4: Northeast’s style guru Dipankar Kashyap has dressed up the most beautiful women in the country. In his new venture, the ace designer has designs on women again — this time on celluloid.
Kashyap is ready with Tides, a film in English and Hindi, based on human relationships from a woman’s point of view. The film will make Kashyap the first fashion designer to venture into filmmaking, though another designer, Manish Malhotra, has also announced plans for his directorial debut in Bollywood.
Kashyap’s film will have an all-India release before Bihu, possibly towards the end of this month.
“I have designed for women mainly and the film is a tribute to their multi-faceted nature,” Kashyap told The Telegraph here today.
He said the film’s story revolved around a woman who dares to have a relationship with her brother-in-law after discovering that her husband was having an extra-marital relationship. “The film is bold in theme, but not explicit. I am not trying to titillate but tell a tale,” he said. “The film also explores the fact that women are willing to forgive, but not men,” he added.
Given the storm that crosses the paths of all the characters in the film, Tides is a “tale of turbulence”, Kashyap said.
The 32-year-old has dabbled in films earlier, but only in Assamese language. He has also directed several music videos.
Kashyap has cast popular model Stuti Choudhury in the lead role with Gladrags Mr India runner-up Munna Khan as her love interest. Assamese stars Kapil Bora and Zerifa Wahid are making special appearances in the film.
“It was a challenging role to play as my character is slightly negative. Being an emotional woman in real life, it was difficult to play a cold-hearted character who wants to get even with her husband,” said Choudhury.
Kashyap, who shot the film in Shillong, said it was breathtakingly beautiful in colours and settings. The costumes will certainly be “designer too”.
The film’s music has been composed by Priyanku Bordoloi. The audio album was released in Delhi last week by Vogue magazine’s photographer Girish Mason.
The long list of celebrities he has dressed up includes Mrs World Aditi Gowatrikar, Miss World Priyanka Chopra, actress Raima Sen, singer Zubeen Garg, music director Anu Malik and supermodels Koena Mitra and Tarun Arora.
