Six days on, Sen sits up

Suchitra Sen is “improving steadily” behind a veil of secrecy at Belle Vue Clinic. For the first time since she was wheeled into ICCU No. 702 with “chest infection and symptoms of dehydration”, she was able to sit up in bed on Sunday.

But a pain in the knee is causing concern. “Doctors tried to help her to her feet, but she couldn’t manage because of the pain,” said a source.

The 77-year-old screen legend’s lung condition and breathing have improved but as the problems persist she is still on oxygen.

The medical bulletin issued by doctors Subrata Maitra and Anirban Neogi on Sunday read: “Suchitra Sen continues to improve steadily. She still remains on antibiotics with oxygen and other supportive therapy. Physiotherapy has been commenced. She is on normal oral diet.”

Sen ate solid food brought from home by daughter Moon Moon and “spoke normally”.

“Doctors are debating whether to reduce the dosage of steroid,” said the family source.
