Six bags full of paper notes
Residents of Baguiati’s Taltala area stumbled upon six bags full of torn currency notes of various denominations on Friday morning. Crowds gathered to see the notes, and even to pocket some. “The residents informed us around 8am about the bags stuffed with notes. But we found that the notes were not original. They are used to play the game of Monopoly,” said Paresh Roy, the officer-in-charge of Baguiati police station.
Additional flights
Private low-cost airline IndiGo started additional daily flights from Calcutta to Guwahati and from Calcutta to Bangalore from Friday, following the delivery of its 17th Airbus A320 aircraft, a spokesperson said. The flight from Bangalore will take off at 8.30am, reaching Calcutta at 11.10am. It will leave Calcutta at 5.50pm and land in Bangalore at 8.15pm. The flight to Guwahati will leave at 1.30pm, reaching there at 2.55pm. The return flight will take off at 3.25pm and reach the city at 4.35pm. he fare for the Calcutta-Bangalore flight is Rs 995 plus taxes and for the Calcutta-Guwahati flight, Rs 500 plus taxes. he Calcutta-Bangalore flight will proceed to Chennai, reaching there at 9.35pm. It will leave Chennai at 5.55am and reach Calcutta at 11.10am ,via Bangalore and Hyderabad. The fare for the Calcutta-Chennai journey is Rs 899 plus taxes.
Fake products
Mohammad Jaan, 58, and Mohammad Zakir, 45, were arrested on Friday from their hardware shop on Harekrishna Konar Road, Beniapukur, for selling fake Tata red oxide and other Tata Pigments products.
Hit by van
Two pedestrians were seriously injured late on Thursday when a speeding Matador hit them on Beleghata Road. The victims, identified as Mohammad Sabir, 55, and Sandhya Thapa, 40, were rushed to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Dacoity foiled
Five men were rounded up from the intersection of Diamond Harbour Road and Mayurbhanj Road, where they had assembled allegedly to commit a dacoity in a flat early on Thursday, police said on Friday.
