The son of a security guard of a school in north Calcutta has been arrested for allegedly passing lewd remarks and making obscene gestures at a Class II student.
Police said Sahadeb Paswan’s misbehaviour has left the eight-year-old girl traumatised.
Following a complaint lodged by her parents on Thursday, the police picked up Sahadeb, 20, and two other members of the family from the premises of the Kailash Bose Street school.
Later, the girl identified the youth as the culprit.
As news of the lewd act spread through the locality, residents put up a blockade on Sukeas Street, demanding “exemplary punishment” for the youth.
The police said Sahadeb was brushing his teeth in the school compound when the girl had gone to the toilet.
While leaving the toilet, she saw the youth standing in front of the door, “passing lewd comments and making obscene gestures” at her.
She ran out traumatised. “At home, she was not in a position to speak. Following repeated pleadings, she narrated her experience,” said her father.
