Help held for theft at employer’s

A domestic help, Anita Mukherjee, 30, and an aide, Subir Sen, were arrested on Wednesday from her Dum Dum home for allegedly committing a theft in the house of Gourcharan Roy, on Chittaranjan Avenue, a week ago. A part of the booty, consisting of gold jewellery and cash, was recovered. Police said Anita would take up jobs as a help and rob her employers. She would steal the jewellery and Subir would sell it.

Owl visits Writers’

An owl flew into Writers’ Buildings on Wednesday. Early in the morning, it was seen sitting on a tubelight in front of relief minister Mortazza Hossain’s room on the first floor. The forest department was alerted, and its employees climbed up a ladder, trapped the owl and put it in a cage. An official of the department said the bird would be freed at Dhapa. Fifteen days back, an owl was seen perched on the ceiling of forest minister Ananta Roy’s room.

Suicide by man

A 48-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself on Wednesday at his Andul Raj Road residence, in the Tollygunge police station area. According to police, the family members of Ramlal Shaw found him hanging from the ceiling with a towel tied around his neck. According to police, Shaw was suffering depression. No suicide note was found.

Wanted, arrested

Acting on a tip-off, police picked up Samir Chaki from Thakurpurkur, on the southern fringes , early on Wednesday and recovered a pistol from him. The police said Samir was wanted in murder and snatching cases. He had been evading arrest for a long time.

Found hanging

A 24-year-old youth, identified as A. Jaiswal, was found hanging early on Wednesday from a bamboo structure on AJC Bose Road, in the Bhowanipore police station area. The youth was taken to Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead. Preliminary investigation suggested it was a case of suicide. The local police station is yet to trace the youth’s address.
