‘Chicken’ hawk

The Red-tailed Hawk, Buteo jamaicensis, is one of the most commonly found birds of prey in the Americas. Also known as chickenhawk, because it was believed that it killed chickens and other domestic fowl, it is a medium-sized bird, easily identifiable by its red tail. It flies at an average speed of 35-40 mph, but while diving, it can go as fast as 120 mph.
