Two youths lynched
Malda, Feb. 25: Two youths, suspected to be thieves, were lynched at Sadipur in the Englishbazar police station area early this morning. The bodies of Sukesh Sarkar, 35, and Shambhu Sarkar, 42, were dumped in a mango orchard on the bank of the Bhagirathi.
The duo, residents of Seattari area, had been caught while stealing timber from a shop. A bicycle and two pieces of wood have been seized from the spot, police said. A case has begun.
Nuts seized
Siliguri: Officials of the directorate of revenue intelligence seized 300 bags of betel nuts worth Rs 25 lakh on Monday. The officials intercepted two trucks carrying the nuts, smuggled from Nepal, to Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri and made the seizure at Talmahat on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Road. Four persons have been detained.
Body found
Siliguri: The body of Joydeb Ganguly, 32, was found in a hotel in Jalpaiguri on Monday evening. The wholesale supplier, a resident of Siliguris Deshbandhupara, had gone to Jalpaiguri on Sunday. A bottle of pesticides and a suicide note were recovered from the room.
2 injured
Islampur: Two persons were injured in a clash between two families over a plot of land at Hashkhori in Chopra on Monday. Bashiruddin and Mansur Ali have been admitted to the Islampur subdivisional hospital. No one has been arrested.
