Students told to look for teacher

Balurghat, Feb. 25: Balurghat College authorities have asked the zoology students to look for a part-time teacher as two lecturers, one permanent and the other temporary, have taken up jobs elsewhere.

The acting principal of the college, Botokrishno Pal, said he was quite worried over the situation. “I have informed the College Service Commission about our need of a zoology teacher. But there was no response from them. I, therefore, asked the students to look for a part-time teacher and I promised them that I will engage him or her immediately,” Pal said.

Sanchita Karmakar, a second year student of zoology honours, however, said it was the college’s responsibility to provide a teacher, once the students were admitted to the course.

The college has two sanctioned posts of zoology teachers. Both of them have got jobs elsewhere and left the institution.

Himangshu Ghosh, the chairman of West Bengal College Service Commission, said in Calcutta that they have completed the process of preparing a panel of zoology teachers for filling up vacant posts in different colleges. “We are ready to place the selected teachers for different colleges across Bengal. As for Balurghat College, we are examining if the authorities there have applied for filling up its vacant posts in zoology.”
