Bodies in rail yard

Dehra Dun, Feb. 25 (PTI): Four unidentified bodies, wrapped in polythene bags, were found by the tracks in the railway station yard today, police said.

The bodies, plastered with mud, appeared to have been buried before they were pulled out and stuffed in the bags. All police stations in Uttarakhand and neighbouring places in Uttar Pradesh are being checked for reports of four missing persons. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Turban rule

Melbourne (PTI): A Sikh couple have challenged an Australian school’s decision not to enrol their son because his turban apparently breached its dress code. The duo filed a complaint with the anti-discrimination commission in Queensland against the Brisbane private school last February.

Ex-judge dies

New Delhi (PTI): Former Supreme Court judge Hans Raj Khanna passed away in his sleep on Monday. He was 95. Justice Khanna, who won international acclaim for his judgment during the Emergency that courts could not shut the doors for citizens against illegal detention, served as a judge of the apex court from 1971 to 1977. Khanna is survived by three sons and a daughter.

Airport arrest

Chennai (PTI): Two youths, who entered the high-security domestic airport with fake boarding passes on Monday, have been arrested. The private airline employee who issued the passes is also in custody, airport sources said.

Drug haul

Chennai (PTI): Customs officials seized 25kg of a banned drug, Ketamine, from a passenger at the international airport. Mohammed Nasser was arrested when the “party drug”, worth Rs 2.5 crore, was discovered in his baggage during a routine check.

Valley quake

Srinagar (PTI): An earthquake of moderate intensity hit Kashmir on Monday but no loss of life or property was reported. The tremor, measuring 3.9 degrees on the Richter scale, shook the Valley around 12.55pm, an official said.
