A young woman, while riding a scooter, fell victim to a motorcycle-borne chain snatcher near RD Tata Technical Institute on Golmuri-Sakchi road under Golmuri police station area this afternoon.
The victim, Sushila Devi, was on way to pick up her son from Rajendra Vidyalaya. As she was driving down Golmuri-Sakchi road, she was hit by a motorcycle from behind.
She was thrown off the two-wheeler under the impact of the collision.
The biker also fell down, but while trying to regain her composure and standing up, he snatched Devi’s gold chain and tried to speed away on his bike.
“It was a terrible experience. I fell down after being hit by this biker and before I could get up from the road, I felt somebody’s hand touching my neck. After that I saw my gold chain in the hand of the biker who hit me. I raised an alarm, but the youth kick-started the bike and tried to flee the spot. Fortunately, several passersby came to my rescue and chased the biker,” the victim said.
As the biker tried to take a turn towards Burmamines, the people chasing him cau- ght up with him near a pet- srol pump.
They thrashed him before turning him in to a patrol police team.
A resident of Ramadhin Bagan in Sidhgora, Devi, had sustained minor injuries in her hands due to the fall.
The stolen gold chain could not be recovered in spite of searching the Golmuri-Sakchi road stretch.

Acting on Devi’s statement, the police registered a case of theft against Jena.
