Dibrugarh, Feb. 20: Dibrugarh XI defeated Dibrugarh Cricket Coaching Centre (DCCC) by five wickets in the inaugural match of the sixth Rafiur Rahman all-Assam Invitation Prize-money Cricket tournament which began at the Chowkidingee playground today.
The meet is being jointly organised by DCCC and Dibrugarh District Sports Association.
DCCC won the toss and elected to bat first.
DCCC scored 134 in 33.2 overs in the 40 overs-a-side match. Umesh Rout and Munu Bora made 21 runs each, facing 33 and 25 deliveries. Rout’s innings was laced with three boundaries.
Young and promising batsman Jyotiraditya Chetia, who had earned a name for himself in a very short time for his lofty shots, played an uncharacteristic knock of 14 runs facing 41 balls. Four DCCC batsmen were run out.
For Dibrugarh XI, medium pacer Abhijit Dutta picked up three wickets for 16 runs in his seven-over spell.
Dibrugarh XI openers Amar Ghosh and Niraj Singhania laid a solid foundation with an 82-run stand, helping the team win the match comfortably.
Singhania, who was declared the Man of the Match, scored 46 in 72 deliveries, while his partner Ghosh played an aggressive knock, hitting 10 boundaries in his 45-run innings off 51 deliveries.
Sanjib Kumar Barauh made a whirlwind 14 off 16 balls. For DCCC, Kamal Sewa picked up two, while off spinner Prasanta Sonowal took one.
There will be no match tomorrow and on Friday because of the senior inter-district meet. The next match is on Saturday between Dibrugarh Blues and Duliajan Cricket Academy.
