Guwahati, Feb. 19: The general secretary of the Assam Olympic Association, Rockybul Hussain, has constituted 11 four-member panels to manage and develop the state and district sports associations.
The idea is to streamline the Assam Olympic Association (AOA), which has been almost defunct since the 33rd National Games in February last year.
The panels comprise the office-bearers of the association.
Each panel has a vice-president, an associate vice-president, a joint or associate joint secretary and an assistant or associate assistant secretary. The four-member panels have been entrusted with the responsibility of looking after at least three state sports associations and at least two district sports associations.
The responsibilities include supervising the selection of state teams, holding inter-district tournaments and keeping records of resolutions and activities of the state and district organisations.
The AOA’s assistant secretary, Bishnu Ram Nunisa, will double as its office secretary.
Almost sidelined when the 33rd National Games was being organised, the AOA office had become a deserted place for nearly two years.
Nunisa has been given the responsibility of setting up the new office of the association at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium. Half of the office has been already built.
Apart from acquiring a new office and holding its annual general meeting to elect an executive body, the AOA has been inert since the National Games.
Hussain had promised to revive the state games and women’s sports meet immediately after his election as general secretary in August last year, but nothing has materialised as yet.
