Imphal, Feb. 17: Police today exchanged fire with suspected Kuki National Front (Military Council) militants at Wangthrok under Moirang police station in Bishnupur district this morning.
No one was killed in the encounter. The militants had opened fire on a police team, which went to Wangthrok after a tip-off about their presence.
K. Jayanta, the Bishnupur superintendent of police, said around 20 militants were staying in temporary camps in the area. One loaded gun, three single-barrelled guns and other weapons were recovered from the site after the militants fled.
According to the police, some incriminating documents belonging to the KNF were also found.
