Two injured

Two passengers were injured when the mini city bus in which they were travelling hit a road divider and overturned in the Bhootnath area on Sunday morning. ther passengers escaped unhurt.

Ganja seized

Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered 8kg of ganja in an unclaimed bag on the Delhi-bound Brahmaputra Mail in the railway station on Sunday. A case has been registered at GRP police station but no arrests were made.

Prisoner dead

An undertrial prisoner, Rubul Ali, 25, died in Guwahati Central Jail on Sunday. Police said Ali was suffering from high fever. He was in the jail since November 2007 on charges of robbery.

Desiltation

The water resource department has started its annual exercise to desilt the Bharalu, Bahini and Mora Bharalu channels. The department on Saturday desilted the stretch of the Bharalu in the Zoo Road area.

Complaint

B. Borooah College has lodged a fresh complaint with the metro district administration against the alleged noise pollution from the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan indoor hall at R.G. Baruah Sports Complex.

Inquiry

The Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha has demanded an inquiry into the scarcity of LPG cylinders despite the claim made by the Indian Oil Corporation, Assam oil division, that there was adequate supply of cylinders.

Celebration

Gopal Boro Government Higher Secondary School will complete its golden jubilee on Tuesday. The celebration will start from March.

Meeting

A general meeting of Guwahati Senior Citizens’ Association was held at Pensioners’ Bhawan in Chandmari on Saturday.

Orientation

An orientation programme for Tata- Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi volunteers was held recently. Fourteen volunteers from the different North Eastern states attended the programme.

B. Borooah Cancer Institute will organise a national conference on breast cancer at the institute premises in Gopinath Nagar on March 8 and 9.
