Subrat Dutta

He is Tolly’s brand new baddie...

He has crossed bats with Jeet in Jor (picture below). Subrat (yes, that’s how he spells his name) is the vile Indranath who stalks heroine Varsha in the Swapan Saha movie. Next up is Shankar Roy’s Saptasur, where he plays the notorious Raj Agarwal and grooves to an item number.

But the Bibar main man wants to steer clear of stereotypes...

“I want to keep my options open. I even did a Bhojpuri film, Tujhse Laagi Lagan, a couple of months back where I played the hero. I’ll probably do another. I’m getting offers of character roles in parallel films which I plan to take up. My aim is to do at least two meaningful films every year,” says Subrat, the dark and sinister hero of Subrata Sen’s Bibar.

And he hasn’t given up on Bollywood yet...

The actor has been stationed in Mumbai for the past seven years, striving to break into the Bollywood big league. “I have played supporting roles in 88 Antop Hill and Tango Charlie. These may not be my dream roles but I have no regrets. I’ll keep trying,” says the drama student from NSD.

Films first happened when Buddhadeb Dasgupta chose him for...

Uttara in 2000 Later, Subrat did Subrata Sen’s Swapner Feriwala. Bibar won him the best actor award at Osian’s Cinefan in 2006.

Subrat is now waiting to...

Complete Irfan Kamal’s untitled film on slum kids. He is also looking forward to the April release of Samar Khan’s Shaurya starring Kay Kay Menon and Rahul Bose. “I play a military general in the film. It’s similar to my role in Zameen with Ajay Devgan.... The other film I hope releases soon is Vinny Mitra’s thriller Meridian. I play the main character Romeo in one of the six stories.”

Films apart, theatre keeps him going…

Subrat assists stage directors Satyadev Dubey and Swanand Kirkire in Mumbai. “I help with both on-stage and backstage work. Theatre is something I do regularly.” Mohua Das
