Guwahati, Feb. 14: Dispur today warned examiners of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and asked them not to do anything that might violate its provisions and invite trouble.
Armed with the act, students appearing for matriculation and the plus-two final examinations beginning tomorrow, can secure photostat copies of their answerscripts if marks obtained by them fall short of their expectations.
The warning heralds a new chapter in the state's academic history.
Sources in the education department said the Board of Secondary Education and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council that conduct matric and plus-two final examinations respectively, have been asked to take necessary steps in this regard and keep a watchful eye on the exam centres to prevent use of cell phones by candidates and invigilators. Altogether 355,179 HSLC and 165,726 higher secondary examinees will appear for their final examinations beginning tomorrow, they added.
"A new chapter begins tomorrow. Teachers as well as the student community will have to be careful about their conduct and keep in mind the ban on the use of cell phones. Wishing the board, council and students the very best, education minister Ripun Bora said: "Invigilators and examiners need to be more responsible to avoid all forms of embarrassment," an education department official said.
