Guwahati, Feb. 14: Maharashtra boys and Tamil Nadu girls dominated the proceedings on the second day of the four-day 53rd National School Games chess championship, under way at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati today.
The Maharashtra boys led the points tally in the under-19 and under-14 boys' category after four rounds, while the Tamil Nadu girls also led the tally in the under-19 and under-17 categories.
The Tamil Nadu boys led the under-17 tally and the Andhra Pradesh girls were leading in the under-14 age group tally.
In the boys' under-19 event, the Maharashtra boys were leading with 13.5 points, with the Tamil Nadu boys trailing in the second slot with 12 points, followed by their Andhra Pradesh counterparts with 10 points in third place.
Hosts Assam were in the sixth position with eight points.
The Maharashtra boys also led the under-14 boys' tally with 12.5 points, followed by Karnataka with 11 points in the second slot.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Madhya Pradesh were tied at the third slot with 10 points each.
Assam boys were placed fifth with 8.5 points.
In the under-17 boys' table, Tamil Nadu led with 12.5 points, followed by Karnataka with 12 and hosts Assam with 10.5 points in the second and third places respectively.
In the girls' events, Tamil Nadu led the under-19 table with 14.5 points, followed by Karnataka with 10.5 points, and Maharashtra with nine points, in the second and third places.
The Assam girls were sixth with 7.5 points.
Tamil Nadu girls led the under-17 tally with 14 points, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 11.5 points and Karnataka with 11 points. Assam girls were placed fifth with nine points.
In the under-14 tables, the Andhra Pradesh girls led with 13.5 points.
The Maharashtra girls trailed in the second slot with 11.5 points while host Assam and Kerala shared the third slot with 10.5 points each.
RBI win
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) annexed the 20th Girish Chandra Goswami inter-financial institutions cricket tournament title defeating Postal Department by seven runs in the final at the Latasil ground here today, says our staff reporter.
Postal men won the toss and put RBI to bat first.
RBI piled up 209 for six wickets in the stipulated 25 overs with former Ranji player Subhrajit Saikia scoring his second century in the tournament. Saikia, who scored 103 against hosts UCO Bank in the semifinal on Tuesday, today scored 124 to be the only notable scorer for the side.
Chasing the uphill score, the Postal players too, cruised ahead with ease but failed to reach the target. Pankaj Rajkhowa of Postal scalped two wickets conceding 38 runs.
