S for sizzler

Sreelekha Mitra is on a high. She’s all over TV playing wife to Saif Ali Khan in a Lays ad, four years after becoming Aamir Khan’s Bangali bou in a Coke commercial.

“It was great working with Aamir; with Saif it was more fun. Saif is like most of his screen characters — funny and always cracking jokes. He told me ‘Aami ektu ektu Bangla bolte pari’... He liked my attitude to work and asked me to work more in Bollywood!” gushes Sreelekha, who got a call from Parineeta maker Pradeep Sarkar to do the ad. “I had done the Coke ad with him. Pradeepda is very fond of me and I respect him a lot.... We shot for two days in Bangkok.”

Back home, Sreelekha is looking forward to Arjun Chakraborty’s directorial debut Tollylights, where she plays screen sizzler Krishnakali. And if the posters are anything to go by, Sreelekha is too hot to handle.

“The picture that shows me hugging a man is a poster shot and I was wearing a backless top. It’s no big deal! Nowadays, we see so many women wearing off-shoulder tops on city streets. I too wear such clothes off-screen. And I don’t mind shedding clothes for meaty roles,” smiles Sreelekha.

Tollylights focuses on Krishnakali’s trials and tribulations. “She goes through a lot to be an actress. And then one day her reel and real lives merge; they become one. I’m not going to reveal more.... I knew the script needed me to do some bold scenes. Arjun had told me before we started shooting. But the film is for everyone; it’s not an adult film with steamy scenes only.”

The backless poster shot is not all; Sreelekha even soaks in a bathtub. “Though it looks daring, I was very comfortable as I was wearing a sari! The scene was necessary to depict Krishnakali’s loneliness. And not just me, my family didn’t have any problem either. I had done much more in Kantataar (read, foreplay and lovemaking). As an artiste I shouldn’t have inhibitions,” says Miss Bold & Beautiful.

Tollylights, produced by Sudhir D. Ahuja, releases on February 29.
