Calcutta: Trainer Vijay Singh’s young colt, Azureus, easily landed the 2,800m Queen Elizabeth II Cup, the main attraction in the trophy-studded eight-event card on Saturday. Jockey Neeraj Rawal partnered the winner, a China Visit-Treasure Land colt.

Earlier, Vijay’s Afforce lifted the HSBC Metropolitan in an equally facile manner, beating some of the crack speedsters to stake a strong claim for Sprinters’ Cup berth during the Invitational weekend billed for next month. C. Alford, who partnered the winner, had also helped trainer Harvinder Singh Bath saddle Imperial Romance to an easy victory in the Arterial Cup. Bath’s Prospective Queen, however, had to be fully ridden out by Neeraj to land the Germany Cup.
