Skins seized

Siliguri, Feb. 12: Customs officials of Naxalbari seized some animal parts at Panitanki, on the Indo-Nepal border, this evening.

Three deer skins, a deer horn and a peacock skin, all packed in a bag, were recovered from a bus, said the joint commissioner of customs of Siliguri and Sikkim, D. Sahu. No one has been arrested. Customs official suspect the skins were being smuggled to Nepal.


Hospital work

Siliguri: Surgery of patients at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital got hampered on Tuesday because of the absence of Group D employees. Only three of the six employees were present. Hospital superintendent Samir Ghosh Roy said six out of 10 operations were performed.


Thief held

Siliguri: Dhiraj Prasad, a resident of Santoshinagar here, was arrested on Tuesday for possessing about 1kg of stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 40,000. Superintendent of railway police M.S.Punia said Dhiraj had stolen the ornaments from a temple in Bihar’s Thakurganj district on February 10. He was picked up from 683 Up Katihar-Siliguri passenger at Siliguri Junction.
