Rs 700cr for bird flu

Calcutta, Feb. 9: Finance minister Asim Dasgupta today worked out a Rs 700-crore package for the seven lakh families affected by bird-flu culling.

The minister met representatives of the Reserve Bank of India, National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development and other nationalised banks today to discuss measures to compensate the families and make arrangements for giving them loans.

“Our discussion with the bankers went off very well. We have prepared a Rs 700-crore package for seven lakh families who suffered losses because of the bird flu. Of this, Rs 100 crore will be provided by the Bengal government as grant and Rs 600 crore will be offered by banks in loans,” Dasgupta said.
