Dinhata, Feb. 8: The Forward Bloc has decided to lodge murder complaints against officials who were responsible for the firing on Tuesday that killed five of their supporters.
The officers whose names are likely to figure in the complaints are inspector-in-charge of the Dinhata police station Sudhangshu Roy, subdivisional officer Debabrata Chakraborty and deputy superintendent of police (crime) Meghlal Sarkar.
Udayan Guha, the district secretary of the Bloc, said today that Basanti, the wife of Swapan Mahanta — one of the victims of the firing — would file the case at the Dinhata police station on February 11. Rajkumari, the wife of another victim Pradip Barman, would also do the same, he said.
Guha said senior party leaders were consulting lawyers in Calcutta to finalise the draft.
“My husband worked for the party till he died. If those who had killed him are punished, I will get satisfaction. So I am doing what the party wants me to,” Basanti said.
The Bloc leaders have decided to felicitate Monindra Roy, the youth who tried to save an injured party supporter while dodging bullets. “We respect the youth’s bravery and will write about him in our party organ, Lokmat. We will felicitate him,” Guha said.
When contacted, Monindra said Guha had thanked him for the rescue attempt.
The party will also make the relatives of the firing victims to file complaints with the National Human Rights Commission.
