Dinahata, Feb. 7: The 18-year-old “fiancee” of Indrajit Chakrabarty, who allegedly attempted suicide yesterday, today denied any relationship with the Forward Bloc worker killed in Tuesday’s firing.
Paramita (name changed) dubbed the report of her suicide bid a Bloc “conspiracy” to embarrass her father, a CPM supporter. She said she knew about Indrajit’s crush on her but she was not interested in him. “Why should I commit suicide then,” she said from her aunt’s house in Gossainmari.
Her father said when he was in the Sitai market yesterday, he heard everyone talking about Paramita’s suicide. “I went back home and as my nephew was visiting us, I sent my daughter to my sister’s place so that she was not harassed. Indrajit’s relatives had come to us for Paramita’s hand, but nothing had been fixed.”
According to Indrajit’s mother Parbati, the families were from Sitai. She said talks were on with Paramita’s family for the wedding. “We were looking for an auspicious date in mid-March.”
While district secretary of the Forward Bloc Udayan Guha said he would not comment on the incident, former MLA from Sitai Nripen Roy who had with conviction said yesterday that the girl had committed suicide, today claimed that he had heard about it from party members. “I am not denying what I said. Something must have happened but there was no politics in it.
