WBCS officer in dowry case arrest
Ekbalpore police arrested six people, including a WBCS officer, Mohammad Sayeedur Rahman Maswoodi, in connection with a dowry case late on Tuesday. Shadab Bano, who was married to Rahman’s son, Masood Mohammad Sohail, around a month ago, complained to police that she was tortured by her in-laws for dowry.
he six were produced in court. Four of them were remanded in police custody till February 8, while two were released on bail. Sohail is absconding.
Empty flat burgled
Burglars broke open the door of an apartment in Ranikuthi and fled with cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 1 lakh. The theft was detected on Wednesday afternoon when the landlord, who had left the city, returned. He found the almirah open and the valuables were missing. Police suspect that local criminals were involved in the burglary.
Cheats cuffed
The cheating section of the detective department conducted a series of raids in the past two days and arrested four persons who had duped both nationalised banks and private banks by submitting forged documents. Two youths, Debasish Mandal and Babon Deb, were arrested for taking a loan of Rs 6.55 lakh from State Bank of India’s Southern Avenue branch. Soumen Mitra and Ramesh Dixit were arrested for duping HSBC’s Dalhousie branch of Rs 11 lakh.
Booster station
Cultivators at Dhapa, who had gone to court to retain their land and block a proposed booster pumping station, agreed to an out-of-court settlement on Wednesday.
