Child thief picked up

Chennai, Feb. 4 (PTI): Police have arrested a man for allegedly abducting a three-year-old girl and selling her off to a group of gypsies for Rs 30.

Ibrahim,44, sold Anasuya at Andhra Pradesh’s Sullurpet and later called her parents asking for a “reward” of Rs 5000 for having “found” their child.

Suicide

Chiplun (PTI): An engineering student allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room in Maharashtra’s Chiplun on Sunday. The incident came to light when his hostel mates called for dinner and did not get a response. After that they broke open the door and found him hanging from the fan.

Delhi blaze

New Delhi (PTI): A minor fire broke out at Vikas Bhavan, the building that houses the Delhi Development Authority on Monday. Seven fire tenders doused the blaze in which no one was injured.

Fraud held

Jammu (PTI): A government employee was arrested from Doda district on Monday on charges of cheating unemployed youths by issuing fake appointment orders. Haji Abdul Salam, a field assistant with the agriculture department at Anantnag, confessed that a Congress leader Farooq Ahmed Mir and a fire services employee had connived with him.

Drug arrest

Moga (PTI): A woman drug smuggler was arrested from Haryana and 1kg of charas was recovered from her possession on Sunday evening. Police were acting on a tip off from the anti-narcotic cell of Punjab.The woman, identified as Saroop, used to supply drugs to young men at hotels and dhabas.
