Lt Gen. Deepak Raj gives away the trophy to the best team at the annual sports meet of Army School Sukna |
The Eagle Cup Golf Tournament of the army was played over 18 holes at Rohini Ecological Park Training Area of Sukna Military Station on January 27.
In all, 38 golfers from Sukna, Bengdubi and neighbouring tea gardens took part in the competition. The winner of the Eagle Cup was S. Hazarika, while Col N.K. Dabas came second.
The gross score winner was Maj. P.S. Gurung, followed by Lt Col Mohit Sikka. Divjot Sandhu won the ladies’ putting event and the runner-up was M.M. Majumdar. Lt Gen. Deepak Raj, SM, General-Officer-Commanding, Trishakti Corps, and Anuradha Raj, the president of the Army Wives’ Welfare Association (AWWA) of the corps, gave the prizes away.
Sports day
Army School Sukna celebrated its 4th annual Sports day on January 24. The occasion was presided over by Lt Gen. Deepak Raj and his wife Anuradha Raj.
The young participants strived to achieve their best in various events. The programme also included a vivid display of colour and rhythm and was a rare treat for the audience. The parents cheered the students all the way. The extravaganza was infused with the spirit of fun and gaiety without giving up the motto “To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield”.
Basketball meet
Trishakti Corps Troops Inter-Unit Basketball Championship for 2007-08 was held at Shivmandir on January 14-23.
Eight teams took part in the championship and the matches were played on league-cum-knockout basis.
The final took place between Army Service Corps (ASC) and Mechanised Infantry. In a closely contested match, ASC defeated Mechanised Infantry 60-54 to lift the trophy.
Lt Gen. Deepak Raj gave away the trophy as well as the prizes to the winners and the runners-up.
Adventure Cup
The Eastern Command Adventure Cup 2008 was held at the Bardong white water rafting nodal centre on January 28-30. The event was coordinated and conducted by the Black Cat division.
Six teams from the Eastern Command took part in the event, which comprised a triathlon of uphill mountain-cycling, running and white water rafting on the Teesta.
Black Cat Division bagged the first position. The best cyclist award went to Gunner J. Swargiary of Black Cat Division and the best runner to Rifleman Rajendra Pal of Kripan Division. Maj. General V.S. Lalotra, AVSM, YSM, SM, General-Officer-Commanding, Black Cat Division, gave away the prizes. |
