Subhajit and Mantu lose

Siliguri, Feb. 1: Table tennis lovers of the town witnessed two major upsets as Subhajit Saha and Mantu Ghosh lost in the quarter-finals of the 69th National Table Tennis Championship this afternoon.

Subhajit, terribly disappointed with the result, said: “I missed my service at the very first game when the score was 10-9. That was the turning point of the tie.”

Divya Deshpande, a 17-year-old girl from Maharastra, served up another shock for the sports lovers by defeating Mantu, winning three of five games.

In another match, Anindita Chakraborty defeated Mouma Das and made it to the semi-finals .

Tomorrow being the last day of the tournament, table tennis lovers will witness some interesting matches. In the men’s semi-finals, Sourav will play against A. Amalraj, while A. Sharath Kamal will face Sayan Pal Roy.

The women’s semi-finals will see Anindita against Divya and Poulomi Ghatak against Neha Agarwal.
